Letters to the Editor
A long time by the lake
Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Thank you to all our patrons, friends, and visitors who have for many years supported Lakehead Visual Arts, the city‘s longest running art club. During the summers tourists from many parts of the world have stopped in to view or purchase our art works and to ask questions about our area.

In 1969 the Lakehead Visual Arts moved into the freight office also known as the baggage building near the CN Station at Marina Park. At that time the building was heated so classes and exhibits were given year round but later, with no heat, exhibits were limited to the summers.

Many very talented and renowned Thunder Bay artists such as Susan Ross, Kay McCullough, Doreen Jetten, Helen Knights, Doris Kramer, Florence Quackenbush, John Smallwood and Terry Chandler have been members and contributed a great deal to LVA.

Comments from our guest book include “beautiful art work,” “I love coming here,” “great to see the gallery still going,” and “thanks for the tourist information.”

Thank you to our long-time members Gladys Postans, Elizabeth Cramb, Verna Ross, Alice Massaro, Genevieve Johns and Lillian Kellogg who have given many hours of volunteer work and knowledgeable advice to the club. All our members are very enthusiastic in many ways which make the club a success.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the City of Thunder Bay for its continued support over the last 40 years. The beautiful surroundings at the marina have been an ideal location for our gallery. We may say farewell to our summers at the marina for now but hope to see you at another venue before long.

Marilyn Farrow
President, Lakehead Visual Arts

Newsflash

THANK YOU! Much appreciation and many thanks are extended to the citizens of Thunder Bay who have supported the Friends of Marina Park over the last several months. Over 7,000 signatures were handed into City Hall, collected within 20 days. This is the largest petition submitted to any Council in Thunder Bay’s history!
